Yoga came into Anja's life when she was 19 years old and living in Copenhagen. Having grown up with a traditional Danish upbringing, she'd never been exposed to yoga. But it was clear, from her first class, that this was her life's work. Within a year's time, she decided to embark on a journey to India and a yoga teacher training in Kerala.
During her time in India, whilst traveling and training, her life truly changed. She began to accept not only who she was, but her eyes opened up to another way of expression, another way of life...this was the fork in the road that shaped the rest of her life.
After India, she felt emboldened to live in London, and began working at the Hale Clinic; at the time, Europe's largest alternative health centre. She also began training as a massage therapist and aromatherapist. Following her work at the Hale Clinic, she went on to work for Neal's Yard Remedies as a manager. Anja's thirst for knowledge was hardly contained, and she embarked on another yoga teacher training, this time with Barbara Harding and Elena Voyce. After she began teaching yoga, she furthered herself by obtaining a BSc and PGDip in Ayurveda at Middlesex University.
Anja was teaching yoga for years, when she started to notice more and more pregnant women attending her classes. She realised she didn't know how to modify poses for their growing bumps, so she found a teacher training in pre-natal yoga and signed up. Her class for pregnant women was so popular, and so many of the women returned after the birth of their babies, that she realised she needed post-natal training. Since that training, and subsequent trainings, she has become something of an expert on pre and post-natal yoga.
Anja is a living example of how yoga is a journey, rather than a destination. She's studied with Shiva Rea and Seane Corn in California, as well as trainings and workshops with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, Francoise Freedman from Birthlight and Claire Missingham. She's also a regular contributor to OmYoga magazine and Huffington Post.
Rest assured that even with her extensive trainings and resolute spiritual path, this yogini is grounded on the earth. The proof is in the cupcake...Anja's deepest fancy, apart, of course, from her husband.
